Going green isn’t just good for the planet. Thanks to a number of government initiatives, it can also be good for your pocket! The new vehicle duty band A, which includes Agila, Corsa, Astra and the new Astra EcoFLEX. All of these attract no road tax in the first year and only £20 or £30 per year after that, depending on tax band. What’s more, these vehicles have great fuel economy, so they’ll save you on fuel costs!

Drive at the right speed

Yes, we know it’s a chore, but saving points on your licence can also save pounds on your fuel bill. At 70mph, you are using 9% more fuel than at 60mph!

Pump up your tyres

Keeping your tyres at the recommended pressure not only makes sure that they last for longer, your engine doesn’t have to work as hard and uses less fuel.

Keep the revs down

Try changing gear at a lower RPM. Not only does it give you a smoother, more relaxed journey, it saves big-time on fuel!

Avoid being stationery for too long

Whilst your car’s not moving it’s still polluting and costing you money. As a rule of thumb, if you’re stopping for more than 3 minutes, switching off the engine will save emissions and fuel.

Lighten the Load

Take anything out of your boot that doesn’t need to be there – you’re paying for that extra fuel to carry it around!
